Kostnix: the first for-free-store in Innsbruck
The question is "do I need it?" " not "how much does it cost?" A for-free-store is a place where everybody can take things he/she needs. A personal need is the only requirement to obtain things. (Need is also ment in an aestethic way.) Therefore no money or any other service in return is demanded; thus it is not a change. Vice versa everybody can bring stuff that he/she doesn't need any more, but may be useful for somebody else. Things shall lose their cash value (price) , but not their utility value. So it's an attempt to question the market regulation logic ( and to get round that in this (yet) small area). Therefore the KN is not a social, but a political project. A For-Free-Store shall counteract the consumer- and throwaway society and promote a more conscious way of handling our ressources. The aim is to produce less, throw away less and work less. Who gets his/her commodities out of a KN-store, saves the money, that he/she would have spent otherwise. Long-term goal is to create a fundamentally different form of living together, whose principal shall not be profit but solidarity. A For-Free-store can also be a meeting place for discussions, lectures, punch and judy theatre, bicycle repairs, story-telling... KN is open for everybody of every age. Everybody can take something without bringing something and the other way round. Everybody can choose and take a maximum of three things per day. The things taken shall be of personal use and not be resold. Those who resell things from the KN-store are not allowed to return. The things, that are brought by, should be clean and in working order! No food or cosmetica, please. The donations are only used for paying the fixed costs (rent, internet). The KN-Team doesn`t make money with the project. Things can be taken without donations, though . There is a noticeboard for bigger objects, but also for ideas, arrangements or events ... |
